Part 1 of an update on events that have happened in the world of C-ent this past week (May 7-May 14):
1. Liu Liqian, a member of girl group SNH48, recently revealed she had been diagnosed with myxoid liposarcoma. The idol had vomited blood during a live broadcast. Earlier, her mother had also been diagnosed with breast cancer. Liu Liqian originally didn't want to undergo treatment, but her SNH48 group members said they had made an appointment at a hospital in Shanghai for her, and they would accompany her to see a doctor. They hope to remove the tumor as soon as possible.
2. Du Haitao and Shen Mengchen refuted breakup rumors by posting a photo of the two on both of their Weibo accounts. Chinese netizens had wondered earlier if they had broken up, since it appeared like the two had deleted all photos of each other off of their Weibo accounts. Several weeks ago, on a variety show, Shen Mengchen had also revealed that no matter how strongly Du Haitao was urged to propose marriage (by friends, parents, netizens), he could not be swayed.
3. Multiple entertainment agencies and companies, including Yuehua, Wajijiwa, TF Entertainment, and Banana Culture, issued statements calling for fans to rationally follow celebrities. Part of these "rational star-chasing guidelines" include the rejection of stalker fan culture, resistance of cyberbullying, only moderate support of stage and works, etc. Fan culture in China has faced increased scrutiny in recent weeks, especially with the milk-dumping incident surrounding Youth With You 3 (a practice in which fans would pour out large quantities of milk so that they could scan the QR code printed underneath the bottle cap to give extra votes for their picks). In addition to the milk-dumping controversy that was picked up by government outlets like Xinhua and CCTV News, a family background scandal surrounding contestant Yu Jingtian (his parents were accused of being involved in drug dealing and facilitating prostitution for the KTV they operated in China) also attracted netizen interest and disapproval.
4. Singer Huang Ling is spotted holding hands and behaving sweetly with an unknown man, sparking dating rumors. Prior to this, she had actually disclosed on a show that she is in a relationship. She said earlier, "I am not single. How could I be single?"
6. Liu Yan made a post on Weibo addressing questions that TV host Meng Fei asked her: "Why are you single?" and "Because you're single, will you lower the criteria you have when it comes to selecting a partner?" She stated that she has never lowered her standards when it comes to finding a partner, because she has never met someone who has moved her heart to the extend that she can give up all her standards. Although she has regrets, she is still full of expectations. She also told single women not to worry or feel anxious: "Walk slowly. Look around you slowly. Bump into others slowly. Meet others slowly."
