On May 20 (China's unofficial Valentine's Day), Tong Liya and Chen Sicheng announced their divorce on Weibo in separate posts. The two had been married for seven years. 

A brief history of their relationship

In 2010, Tong Liya and Chen Sicheng collaborated and filmed Beijing Love Story. On March 17, 2012, Tong Liya and Chen Sicheng announced their relationship on Hunan TV's Happy Camp. In September of 2013, Chen Sicheng was spotted at the airport picking up Tong Liya to return home. He even brought 99 roses to gift to her. On January 15, 2014, Tong Liya posted on Weibo photos of the two of them, and she also posted a confession of love: "We are very much in love, I have married the right person." On January 16, the two held their wedding in Tahiti. 

On January 31, 2014, Chen Sicheng and Tong Liya performed together on Dragon TV's New Year's Gala for the Year of the Horse. The performance was sweet; Chen Sicheng first sang the song "Wife." There was a special reveal of his proposal and their wedding video. On February 11, 2014, Chen Sicheng denied that their wedding was a shotgun wedding. On February 14, 2014, the film "Beijing Love Story", in which Chen Sicheng and Tong Liya had collaborated on, was released. The two played a pair of lovers. In June of 2014, Chen Sicheng and a woman were spotted together at night. Tong Liya made a Weibo post to help clarify the situation for her husband. She said she knew that Chen Sicheng was meeting with the person and was going to bring her home. On August 8, 2014, Chen Sicheng posted photos on Weibo celebrating his wife's 30th birthday. On the 20th, they brought their parents and returned to her hometown of Xinjiang to hold a banquet. 

On February 22, 2015, Tong Liya wished Chen Sicheng happy birthday exactly at midnight. In August 2015, Tong Liya was photographed with a slightly bulging abdomen and she was suspected of being pregnant. On October 21, 2015, Chen Sicheng announced his wife's pregnancy. At the end of the year, Tong Liya made a cameo appearance in Detective Chinatown, directed by her husband.

On January 16, 2016, Chen Sicheng made a post celebrating the 2nd anniversary of his marriage. On January 30, Tong Liya announced that she had given birth. She revealed that the baby's nickname was "Duoduo." On February 22, at midnight, she posted a photo of Chen Sicheng holding their son to celebrate her husband's birthday. On May 8, 2016, they held a banquet to celebrate their son's first 100 days. On August 8, 2016, Tong Liya celebrated her birthday with the crew of the drama Great Expectations. Chen Sicheng kissed her sweetly and affectionately confessed his love for her; he also led the crew in singing a birthday song for his wife.

In January 2017, Chen Sicheng was exposed to have spent the night with two women. Tong Liya shared a photo of her son in her friends circle and wrote, "Start anew! Yaya, jiayou!" In February, Chen Sicheng allegedly went to Hengdian to visit Tong Liya. In March 2017, Tong Liya appeared at an event without wearing her wedding ring. Netizens revealed that the two were in the midst of divorcing and Tong Liya had gotten custody of the child. In response to this, Chen Sicheng said: "Making something out of nothing." In May 2017, Tong Liya was photographed holding her son and visiting Chen Sicheng on set. On August 8, Chen Sicheng celebrated Tong Liya's birthday at midnight; he wrote, "Happy birthday, My Love."

In January 2018, Chen Sicheng visited Tong Liya at work. The two stayed in the same hotel and spent the holidays together. In May, they went to Disneyland together. On August 8, 2018, Chen Sicheng sent birthday wishes to Tong Liya exactly at midnight. On August 8, 2019, Chen Sicheng posted on Weibo to celebrate Tong Liya's birthday: "Wife, jiayou." Tong Liya responded with a meme. In October, Tong Liya's side refuted rumors that she and Chen Sicheng had divorced. In November, Chen Sicheng brought his son to visit Tong Liya at work. Beneath the stage, he watched his wife's dance performance. 

On August 8, 2020, Chen Sicheng made a post to celebrate Tong Liya's birthday: "Duoduo's mother, happy birthday." On August 11, he was filmed visiting Tong Liya at work. In November, Tong Liya promoted Chen Sicheng's new movie. In December, Tong Liya took her son Duoduo with her to visit Chen Sicheng at work. On February 13, 2021, Tong Liya and Chen Sicheng were spotted together after a long time, along with Jackie Chan, Wang Baoqiang, and Liu Haoran. On February 28, the two attended Weibo Night together; they sat side by side in the audience. On May 20, the two announced their divorce.
