A list of dramas I'm looking forward to for 2021. There are a lot of dramas with big-name actors or based off of well-known IPs coming out this year, and here are some of the ones that I'm most looking forward to.
1. The Golden Hairpin (starring Kris Wu and Yang Zi)
If you're active on Weibo and you follow Cdramas (or even if you don't!), you've already probably heard of this one. The billing controversy (ex. should Kris Wu's name go first or should Yang Zi's name go first) went on for so long that it's pretty much overshadowed every other aspect of this drama. But because of all the controversy, I'm now even more excited to see the chemistry (or lack thereof LOL) of the two leads.
2. Ancient Love Poetry (starring Zhou Dongyu and Xu Kai)
Zhou Dongyu is peerless among her generation. Seriously, her acting and critical success really can't be compared to anyone else, particularly for her film works. But she hasn't had great success with TV, and I'm hoping this can be her rebound. Xu Kai, while obviously not in the same acting tier as Zhou Dongyu, is still serviceable, and I think he'll be able to match her presence on screen. Hopefully this project will herald the beginning of Zhou Dongyu's success in TV-land as well.
3. Immortality (starring Luo Yunxi and Chen Feiyu)
The million dollar question is, will this drama even air? You never know with BLs. Luo Yunxi is someone who I first became aware of through Ashes of Love. I've watched so many interviews and clips of him from random variety shows or behind-the-scenes stuff or photoshoots, and he seriously seems like such and endearing and funny person! I guess he could be counted as a liuliang (he does have a pretty strong fandom), but I'm hoping that Immortality is what shoots him into superstardom, since I think his acting skills are still fairly underrated and he deserves better resources.
4. Wisher (starring Feng Shaofeng, Wen Qi, Fan Chengcheng)
Not a fan of Feng Shaofeng, but Wen Qi is one of my favorite younger actresses. Part of it is due to her visuals (I feel like she's like Anya Taylor-Joy in that way...someone with unforgettable and arresting visuals). But her acting chops are there as well, she did very well in her arts school entrance exams, and I think she's going to be one of the best-known faces of the future in C-ent. I was also a huge fan of the Light On dramas from last year, and I'm excited to see the series continue.
